Common questions
Answers to what gets asked most, from fitness to weather.
Do I need to be especially fit?
No. Ordinary mobility is enough. Surfing asks for stamina and balance rather than strength, and both develop through the lessons themselves.
I am not a strong swimmer. Is that a problem?
You do need to be comfortable in water. Early lessons happen where you can stand, and always within your coach's reach. If swimming itself is difficult, start with a few pool sessions first.
What should I bring?
Swimwear, a towel, water, and sunscreen. The board and wetsuit are included in the lesson.
What happens if the weather turns?
If conditions are unsafe the lesson is rescheduled at no extra cost. Your coach makes that call at the latest a few hours beforehand.
What age can you start?
Around eight, provided the child is a confident swimmer. Children's lessons are shorter and run at a different pace.
How long does access to an online course last?
Access opens immediately after payment and lasts for the period shown on the course page. During that time you can rewatch the lessons as often as you like.
Will I stand up on my first try?
Many people stand up in their first lesson — on whitewater rather than an open wave. But it is not a race: doing it properly matters more than doing it quickly.
Can I get a refund?
Yes, under the terms of service. Cancelling a booked lesson has its own notice period — the details are in the terms.
